Here is the latest CDO update from Zoe Canvin below

Canvin ,ZoeSending you all some pre-Christmas cheer… Only 14 more sleeps till Santa is here!

We've achieved some really great things in the Capital Coast this past month. But keep up the great work, especially as we head into a very busy time of year.

So far this season, across the Captial Coast area, we have achieved:

  • 83 Frist Aid Qualifications (Level One - Level Three)
  • Trained three new instructors and we have five probationary examiners working towards the SLA Examiners qualification
  • 22 members have gained their Marine VHF Operators qualification
  • 16 members have been awarded their Patrol Captains qualification
  • Five new IRB drivers and 20 crew people
  • Six members have been awarded Surf Coaching qualifications
  • 59 new Surf Lifeguards helping to patrol our beaches!

We still have a three SLA exams scheduled for next season - Register your candidates as soon as you can.

  1. Tuesday 15th January 2013 at Maranui
  2. Saturday 19th January 2013 at Otaki
  3. Sunday 10th February 2013 venue TBC

The minimum patrol period started a few weeks ago, and so far we have the followingstatson record:

  • 645 hours worked by volunteer lifeguards
  • Five first aid incidents
  • 211 Preventative actions which involved over 700 people!

It is really important you get all your patrol information loaded onto PAM as soon and as accurately as possible!

Please also remember to get your refresher documentationto me so we can update PAM. Send the forms through to me as soon as they are completed, rather than leaving it all until January 31st!

PAM tells me we have only refreshed 90 guards so far this season… so get those refreshers signed off and paper work in ASAP.

Pool Manikin Order!

SLSNZ are putting through an order for pool manikins. If your club is interested in purchasing one, or more, let me know ASAP.

Doing a bulk order will bring down the cost of shipping, and the more manikins we order the cheaper they will be.

This order will hopefully go through before Christmas.

Second Hand Gear

In my last update I mentioned the unfortunate incident at Worser Bay, where four of their boards and two paddles were stolen.

They have since gone through the proper legal and insurance processes, however need another rescue board to replace the missing one.

Does anyone have or is looking to sell a second hand yellow rescue board?

Please contact club chair Grant Rae haberae@paradise.net.nz or cell phone: 0274455862

Christmas Leave and Office Closure

The SLSNZ National Office will be closed between December 24th 2012 and January 4th 2013.

I will also be taking annual leave during this time, however will be available by phone if anything urgent comes up.
