Our Volunteer Lifeguarding Services
Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club is proud to help keep our community safe at Lyall Bay beach through our volunteer lifeguard patrols.
We patrol on weekends between 12noon and 6pm over the summer period (late-November to early-March).
Over the past ten years, we have provided over 14,000 hours of volunteer support and been involved in over 53 rescues and 36 serious first aid incidents.
Summer Holiday Lifeguard Patrols
During the summer school holidays, SLSNZ and Wellington City Council also provide additional lifeguard patrols during the weekdays to keep our beach safe all days of the week.
Interested in Becoming a Surf Lifeguard?
If you’re interested in becoming a surf lifeguard, you can participate in our training course.
The training usually starts around September so that you’ll be fully qualified by the time the season starts. However don’t worry if you’re a bit late to sign-up, as we will do our best to get you up to speed.
To train to become a surf lifeguard, you will need to be 14 years old or older.
If you’d like to train to become a surf lifeguard, email us to register your interest.
The training covers everything you need to know to start your surf lifesaving journey, including rescue techniques, first aid, beach management, and using marine radios.
Find out more about what the course covers and the examination process on the lifeguard award page of the SLSNZ website.
